Concerned Parent/Grandparent

We never stop being a parent, regardless of the age of our offspring. I am the parent of two daughters. One of them is grown and the mother of my grandson who is now 10.
My other daughter, the youngest, is 18. She graduated from High School with honors this year and is in her first semester of college.
I want to make a positive difference in the lives of my grandchildren (and my children). I want this difference I strive to make also impact the lives of others in our world. This is one reason I am pursuing a career in teaching. I am in my Senior year at college. Obviously I am a "non-traditional" student. My motto is "You're never too old to be what you might have been".
My gravest concern presently is the prevalence of divorce in our culture. I sense that Grandparents around our country are experiencing difficulty seeing their grandchildren due to the crumbling of the foundation of marriage in our culture. Acrimony seems to be running rampant. This issue has proven very destructive in my own family this year. My oldest daughter ended a fourteen year marriage, remarried, and had a new child. All of this transpired within one year. There is now an emotional backlash of unprecedented proportion that is spewing forth destructively into the life a precious young man, (My Grandson). He has suffered much loss in his life this year.
My goal is to seek a network of support and encouragement to other grandparents who have had their relationship with grandchildren cut off as a result of a demonstration of poor conflict resolution skills. I would like to talk to others who have attempted to seek reconciliation and have had their efforts rejected. I want to speak to others who recognize how dangerous and destructive a "root of bitterness" can become, and hold firmly to the belief in the power of LOVE to heal and overcome adversity.
